Paraguay is a landlocked nation between Argentina, Brazil and Bolivia, home to enormous swaths of swampland, subtropical backwoods and Chaco, unsettled areas involving savanna and scrubland. The capital, Asunción, on the banks of the Paraguay River, is home to the terrific Government Palace and the Museo del Barro, showing pre-Columbian earthenware production and ñandutí lacework, the last accessible in numerous shops.
