Belize is a country on the eastern bank of Central America, with the Caribbean Sea shorelines toward the east and thick wilderness toward the west. Seaward, the gigantic Belize Barrier Reef, dabbed with several low-lying islands called cayes, has rich marine life. Belize's wilderness is home to Mayan remnants like Caracol, famous for its transcending pyramid; tidal pond side Lamanai; and Altun Ha, simply outside the Belize City limits.
